About

My name is Charlotte Cusumano and I am a writing and editing professional. When I first started this blog, I was a senior at Hunter College, eager to start my career and excited to talk about it. Only months later I find myself in a completely different situation. I’ve got some experience under my belt now and some life experience, too.

I’ve spent the last three months working as an Editorial Assistant at an amazing website. There were job cuts and I found myself laid off from my first job right out of college (talk about life experience). After getting over my, well, complete devastation, I’m OK with being a walking unemployment statistic for now. I got into media because I liked asking questions and finding my own answers to satisfy my curiosity. Journalism isn’t just writing for a magazine or blog or editing a book—it is about asking questions and being curious. When I started to ask questions I found out I was interested in writing, editing, publicity, coming up with ideas, researching, developing programs and campaigns and talking to people. And with all those things I just named, I can talk to people, reach people, touch people and learn about new people and new things, which is why I fell in love with journalism and publishing in the first place.

Things may seem a little bleak right now, but they are also exciting. Everything is changing. Business models are changing, the country is changing, the face of journalism and publishing is changing and although it is a bit of a bumpy one, I’m still psyched to be along for the ride.
